Lady Bug's Fight
When Lady Bug arrived at Paws Place from Brunswick County, she was barely holding on.
Pneumonia had settled into both of her lungs. Her body, already starving, was covered in the raw, hairless patches of demodectic mange. She was skin and bones — the kind of thin that makes your heart stop when you see it in person. There was no muscle left to hide how sick she truly was.
Because her pneumonia was contagious, Lady Bug couldn't be around the other dogs. For over a month, while her lungs slowly healed and her skin began to recover, she stayed in quarantine — alone. No littermates to lean on. No new foster family to curl up with just yet. Just our staff, showing up every single day to give her medicine, food, and the kind of patient care that tells a scared, sick dog: you're safe now.
A month is a long time to fight for your life in isolation. But Lady Bug fought. Day by day, her lungs cleared. Day by day, her coat started to grow back. Day by day, the dog underneath the sickness started to show through.
That kind of recovery doesn't happen by accident. It happens because someone decided a dog like Lady Bug — sick, scared, and far from anyone's first choice — was worth the time, the medicine, and the money it took to save her.
That someone is our donors.
Every gift to Paws Place helps make sure that when a dog like Lady Bug comes to us with nothing left, we can say yes — yes to the vet bills, yes to the month in quarantine, yes to the second chance she never would have gotten otherwise.
Will you help us keep saying yes?
Thank you so much for believing in us as much as we believe in our mission and organization.
